I noticed this difference at home because my grandmother prefers dhoop while I usually use agarbatti. Dhoop sticks are thicker, don’t have a bamboo core, and give a stronger, more earthy fragrance. They’re often used during rituals or pooja because the smoke is denser.

Agarbatti, on the other hand, is lighter, has a bamboo stick, and burns more evenly for a longer time. It’s more common for daily use because it’s convenient and less intense. Personally, I feel agarbatti is better for regular use, while dhoop creates a more traditional and powerful atmosphere during special occasions.
