With the world getting more and more inclined towards the instant sources of entertainment, it is losing its patience which cost you a lot and ends up being a headache for one and a half, or even two hours (some Bollywood flicks even stretch till 3 hours).

In such a scenario, short movies and web series have emerged as a boon. Since your question concerns just short films, let’s keep web series aside for a while.

So short films are as the name goes, short, quick, and very, very crisp. In just 15-20 minutes, these movies tell you about a whole world, and how! They have their own layers which are shed off one by one and the end, at most of the times, comes as a surprise, despite viewers’ prior knowledge that it will end as soon as it starts.

India has its own fair share of short movies which are performing better on YouTube than many Bollywood movies on Box Office. The best short films in India are hard to name as most of them are too good, featuring great actors.

Five of the top short films in Hindi are enlisted below:

1. Ahalya

Director: Sujoy Ghosh

One attraction of the movie is the protagonist being Radhika Apte, and she is looking like a goddess in the movie. And, she is as fantastical as a goddess too. We believe she is here, but actually, she’s not. Viewers, right from the start wonder that there is a mystery about her, but they just don’t know what that is.

The end will leave you dumbstruck for sure, as the mystery resolves.

2. Rogan Josh

Director: Sanjeev Vig

This movie stars Naseeruddin Shah as a chef. He is celebrating his birthday with family and friends and has prepared his specialty, Rogan Josh for them. Most of the movie deals with the casual dinner-table talks until Shah’s daughter-in-law enters the adobe.

One more thing, the movie refers to the events of 26/11 in Mumbai.

3. Blindspot

Director: Tania Deohans

It is a sweet and short tale telling us how only husbands have the luxury of making wives insecure and jealous. As the conventional roles experience a reversal, things go ugly and for the rest, watch the movie.

4. Shame

Director: Anusha Bose

It has Swara Bhaskar in the lead role who own her character of a maid in a 5-star hotel. She pays a price for thinking beyond the limits of her status, and in turn, wreaks havoc in the hotel.

5. Chutney

Director: Jyoti Kapur Das

Tisca Chopra is unrecognizable in the movie, and that’s the beauty of it –the beauty which does not end just there. She is shown in conversation with another phenomenal actress, Rasika Duggal over Pakodas and cold drinks. The story unfolds in layers and is as spicy as the name suggests.
