In my opinion, the finest phrase to learn initially is "¿Cómo estás?" It is easy to say, it is natural and it is understood everywhere in Spanish-speaking countries.

  • Todo bien. = All’s well.

  • More or less. = So-so.

  • Not too good. = Not so great.

A natural starter conversation would be along the lines of:

"Hey, how you doin?"
Ok. Thanks. And you?
