Inter caste marriage, often known as marrying outside of caste, is an exogamous relationship in which two people from different castes marry. In several South Asian civilizations, inter caste marriages are viewed as particularly socially inappropriate and taboo. When a person from a higher caste marries someone from a lower caste, it is referred to as an inter-caste marriage. Inter-caste marriages have steadily gained popularity in India as a result of increased education, employment, middle-class economic background, and urbanization. Inter-caste marriages account for 5.8% of all marriages in India, according to the 2011 census.
