It is now futile asking such questions. The news was covered by The Hindu which lacked a lot. After SC announcing the death sentence for the convicts of Nirbhaya case, this decision is an unexpected one. You would think even a small assault case give the feminists and gender activists a chance to go crazy all around, but let me tell you that’s exactly what we need in this country where sexual assault is taken as lightly as anything.
It’s deeply heartbreaking that neither mobs nor peaceful candle marches can curb the rape culture that our country is hosting. In the case of which you talk, the convicts are two priests. Madras High Court did right by dismissing their pleas but SC’s decision is really saddening.
India has failed time and again to make the rules against sexual assault and harassment stricter. I think this is working as a sort of encouragement to the offenders. Not only this, it is disrespectful to the victims and to those who are vulnerable.
