PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and PCOD is Polycystic Ovarian Disease. They're basically the same condition affecting 10 to 13 percent of women worldwide.
Honestly, it is trending because more women are finally getting diagnosed instead of suffering silently. PCOS is a hormonal disorder where your ovaries produce excess androgen hormones leading to irregular periods, difficulty getting pregnant, acne, and excess body hair.
Around 70 percent of women with PCOS don't even know they have it. What's making people talk about it now is better awareness on social media plus more cases being diagnosed in younger women and teens.
PCOS increases risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and metabolic issues long term. It is very manageable with lifestyle changes and medication but there is no cure.
