What are the types of Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel is mainly classified into five types: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex, and precipitation-hardening. These types differ in chemical composition, microstructure, strength, corrosion resistance, magnetic properties, and typical applications such as cookware, construction, medical tools, marine equipment, and high-strength aerospace components.
304 and 316 grades of Austenitic stainless steels have long been the materials of choice for many types of interior spaces, kitchens and decorative works due to their excellent strength and corrosion resistance properties. Conversely, Ferritic stainless steel can be used in appliances and automotive components, Martensitic stainless steel is ideally suited for applications requiring high mechanical strength and hardness, and Duplex stainless steel provides both high strength and resistance to corrosion.
