Facebook has always been the center of controversies whenever the question of privacy has come to the surface. Now according to the Facebook update news reports, Facebook has been accused of not letting its users hide their contact numbers from everyone.

This means that anyone can search your Facebook account through your contact number. And since Instagram is also owned by Facebook, this app can also avail your number for multiple purposes. This is the reason why Insta asks you to confirm your phone number when you are linking your Facebook account with your Insta account.

Facebook, we all know, asks us to enter our phone number for the two-factor authentication or 2FA. Many of us, however, are unaware of the fact that this number is being used for more than just securing our account. In fact, our private information is the price we are paying for securing our Facebook account.

Facebook algorithm changes, henceforth, do not work in our favor. The social media platform can track many of your online activities and can use your interest to make the ads related to your interests reach you. And this only the beginning.

Facebook’s new policy changes 2019 let you hide your posts and information like your date of birth from anyone, by giving the option of “only me” in the privacy. This, however, is not the case with your phone number. In that slot, you won’t find the “only me” option to hide it from everyone. You can either opt to share it with your “friends” or with the “friends of friends”.

This seems a serious problem to me as in this way, the people whom you don’t want to see you on the social media platform can also find about you. This not only threatens privacy but also makes Facebook unsafe for users. No wonder its popularity is decreasing day by day.
