Food, when taken in variety and in proper quantity, makes a balanced diet, which is highly essential for a healthy life. Food is the primary thing, after air and water, which is extremely necessary to keep us going. Now, this food just can’t be taken in just any quantity. There’s a prescribed amount of how much calories, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals, should be taken for a healthy and sound body.

For a balanced diet, one needs to take foods from the following groups:
• Vegetables and legumes/beans
• Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts, and seeds, legumes/beans
• Grain (cereal) foods, mostly wholegrain and/or high cereal fiber varieties
• Milk, yogurt, cheese and/or alternatives, mostly reduced fat.
