Children are considered to be the most pure soul. Young minds that get mould into the environment in which they are kept. But in today’s time, things have changed a lot, as children are facing many behavioural issues that often have a great impact on their future life. The behavioural issues not only affect their relations at home but the pattern also disturbs their life in school and Social activities. 

 

At times the situation of the children turns out to be extremely challenging and difficult that it is out of the norm of individual age. This article will give you insight to the behavioural disorders that usually affect the normal functioning of young minds.

Understanding Behavioral Disorders in Children

 Children are always naughty, which is quite normal but the disruptive pattern in the behaviour of young minds can be a sign of behavioural disorder. At times we fail to understand the difference between the naughtiness of a child and behavioural disorder of the individual. This makes it necessary to understand, What behavioural disorder actually is?

 

Behavioural disorders is basically the condition where the child’s social, behavioural, and emotional functioning is affected. The disorders exhibit aggression, impulsivity, difficulty in social interaction and many more.  Some of the behavioural disorders in young individuals are Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). 

 

Diagnosis of the disorder becomes difficult, as there is a chance that an individual might be suffering from two disorders at a time. The reasons that are responsible for behavioral disorders include family difficulties, emotional problems, substance abuse and so on. Some of the disorders are considered normal as a part of the development phase of an individual but persistence in the behavioural issue can disrupt a child's life . 

 



Common Types of Behavioral Disorders

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD): One of the behavioral disorders that can be seen in children is Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The disorder often has the following symptoms; irritation, anger, and defiant behaviour that includes arguing with adults, deliberately annoying others, and refusing to follow the rules. 

  • Conduct Disorder (CD):  Another type of behavioural disorder that is more severe than ODD is Conduct Disorder. This type of disorder in children involves a continuous pattern of aggressive behaviour and destructive tendency . This category involves bullying, destruction of property or any other valuable things, cruelty toward animals and many more. 

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Primarily characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Children with ADHD may have difficulty focusing, staying organized, and controlling their behavior.

  • Anxiety Disorders:  Another type of disorder that is quite common in children is Anxiety disorder. This order can manifest in young ones in various ways that includes social anxiety, worry, separation anxiety and many more. 

  • Depression: Depression is one more type of disorder which is becoming common these days. The child suffering from depression experiences continuous sadness and loss of interest in almost each and every activity. In addition to this one can see a change in the appetite and sleep in the child.

 

 

Causes of the Behavioral Disorder

Behavioral disorder is one of the disorders that affects the mind of children, though there are different reasons behind these disorders. So here are some of the causes behind the behavioral disorder;

 

  • Genetic Disorder: One of the unknown reasons behind the behavioral disorder is genetic disorder. Many of us are unaware that family history of mental health conditions also increases the risk of child behavioral issues.

  • Brain Development:  Another reason behind behavioral problems is the difference in brain structure and function, that may play a crucial role in the behavioral issue of a child.

  • Environmental Factors: Another reason behind the behavioral issue in children is environmental factors that include trauma, abuse, and negligence.  These have an adverse impact on the child’s emotional and behavioral development.

  • Social and Cultural Factors:  Societal expectations , cultural norms, and peer pressure also affects the development of children causing behavioral disorders in young children. Social and cultural factors play a crucial role in the development of young minds. 

 

 

Behavioral disorder is one of the major problems affecting the children, though at times it goes unnoticeable at times or is noticed quite late. It is very important for the parents to take a close look at the behavior of the children so that their child doesn’t face any behavioral issues.
