What are some good qualities of a good boss?

I personally think that one of the key things here is genuine care for the employees. How much time the boss spends in ensuring an all-round well-being of all the employees. If you see it, this is extremely critical for the better workplace environment, improving productivity and, then eventually growing a business.

Take the example of any successful person who handles a big executive or managerial role. Tony Robbins, Sundar Pichai, Gary Vee, Tim Cook—each of them has time and again confirmed just how important it is to have a good working culture, which promotes higher employees’ efficiency. And for this, their companies have separate policies that ensure the general well-being of all those who work there, right from finance to psychology.

In fact, Sir Richard Branson has even gone to an extent of saying that employees should be the #1 priority of every organization. “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients,” he said.

So, showing genuine care towards employees is the single most important quality that makes a boss good.

Now, there are plenty of ways to do this. Like:

• Conversing with each of them all the time. (Or at least once every month, if the workforce is large.)

• Asking them about their personal lives and ensuring everything is right on that front.

• Giving them more opportunities in the workplace .

• Taking their feedbacks and implementing their views on important decisions.

• Including them in important decisions.

• Investing in nurturing their career dreams.

• Rewarding them correct, financially, for their hard work.

• Listening to the employees, understanding their needs and problems, and resolving all that needs to be resolved to ensure their high work satisfaction.

These simple things show that the boss cares about the employees. And this makes her/him a great boss.

Of course, aside from this, there are many factors that play into whether or not a boss is good. Here are some of those qualities:

(i) Being good at work. It’s important. If the bosses aren’t good themselves at the work, how can they expect others to be good?!

(ii) Being a good decision-maker. They must make quick (and right) decisions all the time. This is one of the most important qualities of a good leader.

(iii) Being good at communication. This goes without saying. They need to be good at communicating (with employees, clients, and customers)

(iv) Must be a visionary. They must have a proper vision and the right mission to fuel companies’ growth and sustainability.

(v) Knows to keep away the a#s-kissers. Managing personal ego is difficult. They must know how to keep away all the a#s-kissers in the workforce and reward those who work hard.

These are 5 important qualities that make a boss good. Of course, except for a very small percentage, the majority of bosses out there are outright poor. In particular, in India, where employees are treated as peasants and a stepping stone to make more money, employers show new signs of lows, which is extremely sad. Hope the work culture changes soon and we see more of caring bosses.
