The first cameras were invented by a man named Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1826. He was a French inventor who was born in Chalon-sur-Saône, France on December 20th, 1765. His work with photography began when he developed an interest in capturing the image of indoor scenes using a camera obscura that projected an image upside down onto the ceiling. When he could not find any paper that would stay flat enough to serve as a photographic medium inside the camera, he fixed a pewter plate to a frame and exposed it to light from the bright surface outside so it could capture his subject for hours at a time under daylight conditions.
