Why Donald Trump and Imran Khan troll each other?

Things started boiling between US and Pakistan back in January 2018. Here’s what President Donald Trump tweeted on Jan 1:

“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”

His words turned into evident action only in September when his Administration really decided to cancel $300 million in aid to Pakistan for failing to act against militant groups. It accused Pak of “a lack of Pakistani decisive actions” in dealing with terrorist groups in the country.

All the while, Pakistan leaders remained hushed – perhaps busy dealing with their election and other social issues – acting only diplomatically with the US officials.

BUT things took an ugly when only recently President Donald Trump bashed Pakistan openly in his interview to his love-locked Fox news, and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to reply back without mincing any word.

In the interview, President Donald Trump trashed for sheltering Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11. This triggered the new Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan who, unlike his predecessor, does not believe in cowering and being “too diplomatic”. In a series of Tweets, Imran Khan reminisced Pak’s support to the US in wars, the cost it burdened, and how it remains a staunch ally to the States.

Here are 4 of his tweets:

“Record needs to be put straight on Mr Trump's tirade against Pakistan:

1. No Pakistani was involved in 9/11 but Pak decided to participate in US War on Terror.

2. Pakistan suffered 75,000 casualties in this war & over $123 bn was lost to economy. US "aid" was a miniscule $20 bn.”

“3. Our tribal areas were devastated & millions of ppl uprooted from their homes. The war drastically impacted lives of ordinary Pakistanis.

4. Pak continues to provide free lines of ground & air communications(GLOCs/ALOCs).Can Mr Trump name another ally that gave such sacrifices?”

“Instead of making Pakistan a scapegoat for their failures, the US should do a serious assessment of why, despite 140000 NATO troops plus 250,000 Afghan troops & reportedly $1 trillion spent on war in Afghanistan, the Taliban today are stronger than before.”

“Trump’s false assertions add insult to the injury Pak has suffered in US WoT in terms of lives lost & destabilised & economic costs. He needs to be informed abt historical facts. Pak has suffered enough fighting US's war. Now we will do what is best for our people & our interests”
As was expected, President Donald Trump responded. He didn’t objectively answered Imran Khan or talked on the same lines. In series of Tweets, he continued bashing Pak for hiding Osama Bin Laden. And then brought back his favorite nationalist ‘make America great again’ tone to his Tweets.

Here’s what he tweeted:

“Of course we should have captured Osama Bin Laden long before we did. I pointed him out in my book just BEFORE the attack on the World Trade Center. President Clinton famously missed his shot. We paid Pakistan Billions of Dollars & they never told us he was living there. Fools!..”

“....We no longer pay Pakistan the $Billions because they would take our money and do nothing for us, Bin Laden being a prime example, Afghanistan being another. They were just one of many countries that take from the United States without giving anything in return. That’s ENDING!”

We can’t really blame President Donald Trump for his stance. Pakistan has always lagged in dealing with the terrorists even when the same outfits have been responsible for killing hundreds of children over the years.

But then, US’s canceling of the aid can put a big dent on Pakistan’s economic infrastructure. So, Trump’s decision may cascade to hurt the lower and middle-class families.

Well, well…

This is how the leaders of two states are trolling each other on the internet. Hope it answers your question.
