Naxalites in India, especially in the regions of West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and other places always had a grudge for the CRPF jawans. The Maoists in this part of India had always targeted the Central Reserve Police Force of India. One of the reasons is the fact that this particular unit has always been very active when it comes to carrying out operations against the Maoists. They have been ruthless in their approach and most importantly, every single time they carried out an operation, they had success. They have managed to eliminate many top Maoist leaders and at one point of time, Maoist movement in Eastern India was almost finished due to lack of leadership .
Under such circumstances, the Maoists decided to attack a convoy of CRPF jawans in the Dantewara district in the state of Chattisgargh. They carried out a surprise attack on the convoy and managed to kill 76 CRPF jawans. This incident took place in the year 2010 and remains to be the most deadly Maoist attacks to be ever carried out. Though this attack was avenged as CRPF struck back with tremendous force within a month’s time and eliminated many top Maoist leaders in that region.
