Whole India is mourning the demise of Nightingale of India, LataMangeshkar. She made us laugh, cry, giggle, romantic, patriotic and what not. Her songs were lullaby to her fans. She made us feel as if the musical notes are actually Sa Re Ga Ma Pa La Ta.
Lata mangeshkar was born as Hema mangeshkar on 28th September 1929 in Indore. Her original name was Hema and she was renamed lata by her parents after a female character in her father's drama as latika. Her family is a family of performers. Her father ran a theater company and he was also a musician. She was the eldest in her family and her siblings are Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridayanath.

lata Mangeshkar was awarded the highest civilian award of India, Bharat Rathna and highest film personality award Dada Saheb palke award. She sang in 36 Indian languages and few foreign languages.

- Lata Mangeshkar's first song was removed from the film.
Lataji recorded her first song “Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari” for a Marathi movie Kiti Hassal. But unfortunately yhe song was removed from the movie.
- Lata ji once fainted wile recording a song.
Lata Mangeshkar once fainted while recording a song for Music director Naushad. She said in an interview that as there was no air condition in the recording theaters during those days and the fan was also switched off because of the recording she fainted due to the heat.
- Lataji never listens her own songs.
Lata Mangeshkar ji once said that she never listens to her own songs. If she did, she would find a hundred faults in her singing and it would upset her.
- Lata ji nerver worked with O.P. Nayyar in her carrier.
She worked with all the famous music directors except O.P.Nayyar ji.
