Some indoor plants can grow well even without sunlight. We call them low-light plants because they're used to living in places with not much light.
These plants usually have dark green leaves and don't grow too fast. They're also pretty tough, so if you forget about them sometimes, it's okay.
To choose and take care of low-light indoor plants:
1. When you pick a plant, make sure it says "low-light" or "can handle shade."
2. Put your plant where it gets light that doesn't come directly from the sun. It should see some light from a window or another light source but not sunlight.
3. Give your plant water regularly, but don't give it too much. Let the soil get a bit dry before you water it again.
4. Feed your plant with plant food about once a month in spring and summer. Mix the food with water to make it less strong.
Here are some examples of low-light indoor plants:
- Snake plant
- ZZ plant
- Cast iron plant
- Chinese evergreen
- Pothos
- Philodendron
- Peace lily
- Aglaonema
- Dieffenbachia
- Monstera
- Boston fern
- English ivy
If there's a room in your home that doesn't have much sunlight, don't worry. You can still have nice plants that do well there. Just follow these tips, and your indoor space can look green and lovely, even if the sun doesn't shine inside often.
