Simply because she was a sensation in her own right. Karre Mastanamma traced a long journey, full of struggles for 107 years and was able to make possible what might be just a dream even for us –the social media and internet generation.

Her success story on Youtube is not a hidden tale. Granny Mastanamma, with her exceptional cooking videos, won the heart of all the Indians on the giant video platform and gained a whopping 12 lakh subscribers on her channel.

She died on 3rd December 2018, and the whole Youtube is mourning the demise of India’s eldest Youtuber. And what a competition she used to give to those who are much well-versed in the art and science of Youtube than her!

By her age, it is not very difficult to guess that she did not use to make cooking videos for Youtube since her early age. Neither was she born in the age of the internet. In fact, she was a widowed woman of 5 children, and a laborer on construction sites when she was 22 years old.

The knowledge of the background makes it even more difficult for us to believe what a sensation she was on Youtube.

She lost 4 of her children to a Cholera epidemic and worked as a laborer, even at 105 years of age. In between, she also worked as a chef in a hotel and used this experience as the basis of her Youtube channel.

As she tells the reporters, her husband before dying, used to tell her, 'You are a very intelligent and strong woman. You will survive.'

She survived, and how!

She won a million hearts with her old-school cooking skills and told other YouTubers that Youtube is not only for the young and the new. Her unique ideas like Watermelon chicken and Emu Egg curry gained popularity all over. Here’s a video for you:

RIP Granny Mastanamma!
