The new regulations replace 29 older, fragmented laws with four consolidated codes. This significantly changes the landscape for women working in 24x7 sectors.

From Prohibition to Permission (with consent): The new Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code, 2020, now allows women to work night shifts across all sectors. However, with written consent given by women.

Mandatory Safety and Security Protocols: This includes secure transportation, workplace security, and batch working.

Equal Remuneration and Overtime: Women will be paid not less than men, and overtime work will be compensated at double the normal wage rate.

Strengthen POSH Compliance: The Internal Complaints Committee must be operative and active.

Expanded Definition of Family: The new rules update the definition of family to include parents-in-law for female employees, which provides greater flexibility for leave and dependency.
