How has been Rajnikant’s box office collection of 20?

Aside from the fact that 2.0 stars God-like Superstar Rajinikanth, the movie also has Karan Johar’s Dharma Production as one of its distributors. Dharma Production was also the distributor of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali. So, 2.0 has “commercial success” written all over it. It is one of those movies that simply CANNOT fail to bring BIG money for the makers.

In addition, 2.0 is also the Kollywood debut of Akshay Kumar, who is a money-making machine himself. So, his core following will benefit the movie as well.

Talking about the reviews: the first day review of 2.0 is fairly positive from the movie-goers. But the critics, they aren’t exactly sold to 2.0.

Indian Express’s Shubhura Gupta gave it 2 out of 5 stars.

Times of India M Suganth’s rated the movie with 3 out of 5 stars.

And NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee, calling 2.0 “(it) would have been a far greater film had the screenplay dared to go beyond the known tricks of the genre,” rated the movie 2/5.

But despite the critics, it’s Rajinikanth’s movie. And to his fans, he can do no wrong. There are people reporting that in some centers, the movie is opening as early as 4:00 am. Another report says, on Rajinikanth’s entry in 2.0, they actually paused the movie for 3 minutes on that particular scene, and the audience danced and rejoiced.

Even before the release, review of 2.0 from the fans’ side was declared as mega hit. Not surprising really.

Coming to the figures: 2.0 is made in a budget of nearly Rs 600 crore. Although, it has already recovered some Rs 370 crore from its satellite, digital and distribution rights.

The official numbers aren’t in about the first day earning of 2.0. But…

Here’s what trade analyst Girish Johar said to The Indian Express, “The Hindi version of the film is expected to earn something between Rs 20-25 crore on the day of its release. If we consider all languages (Tamil and Telugu), the Rajinikanth starrer will touch Rs 100 crore (gross) mark on day one.”

Many believe that 2.0 can break the newly-created opening day record of Rs 52 crore set by Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan. Also, there are speculations that, in view of the current trends and enthusiasm, 2.0 can come close to defeat Baahubali 2’s record of being the all-time highest grossing film in India.

Honestly, it does feel like that if there’s anyone who could beat Baahubali’s mammoth-like record, it’s definitely Superstar Rajinikanth. Besides, comparing to Baahubali’s 9,000 screens, 2.0 is releasing on record-creating 10,500 screens worldwide. So, it does have an advantage here.

As we close the weekend, things will become clearer where the movie is heading and how much has it earned. Saying anything on its success so early would be absurd. Especially after what happened with Thugs of Hindostan; after record-breaking opening, due to the poor word of mouth, the movie sank to be called one of the worst movies.

P.S. The VFX are extraordinarily amazing... like no other Indian movie. If you’re planning to watch the movie, please don’t read the reviews of 2.0. Just go, watch it and be a jury yourself. It’s a full entertainment.
