The northwestern India was divided into various regions that are known as "suyukta". There were 19 states in the northwest India. Among them, five states were conquered by Alexander. Among these five states, three of them (Kashmir, Punjab, Sindh) had been already subdued and subjugated by the king before his invasion of Northwest India occurred. The remaining two conquered states include Arachosia and Gedrosia.
Alexander invaded northwestern India in 326 BC with his forces consisting of 40,000 cavalrymen from Greece and Persia led by Ptolemy I Soter and Hephaistion respectively. He was supported by 3,000 military trainers that were predominantly Greek mercenaries for logistics support purposes.
