The research study has recently brought into light a very disturbing fact of how Sabarmati river has become the breeding ground of bacteria and pollutants. For ages, the dangers of polluting Rivers with fecal waste have been ignored by all the policies of the government. High concentration of antibiotic resistant E. coli bacteria has totally and fatally ruined the Sabarmati River. Due to the absence of safe wastewater management and improper civic planning, such a situation has arisen. A large amount of untreated sewage is being dumped in the river on a daily basis.

Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation has taken a major initiative against the practice of illegal drainage dump. Investigations have revealed that the places which were located upstream of the world were composed of housing societies. These housing societies were the major contributors of untreated drainage dump. The civic authority of the city has also admitted to the fact that there has been a major lack in providing long-term vision to the problem of managing this sewage of the city. 40 stormwater outlets that were meant for carrying rainwater has been carrying domestic drainage due to the illegal connections that have been made but the residential colonies. All these issues have piled up to be the source of great public health threats in the city.
