NEET 2025 Result Awaited – Merit List, Counseling & College Insights

The NEET UG 2025 result is expected to be out on June 14, 2025. As the results for NEET 2025 come closer, lakhs of students across the country are anxiously waiting to see how they’ve performed. The NEET answer key is expected to be live on the official website of NTA: neet.nta.nic.in. Candidates can challenge the answer key by paying INR 200.

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the only gateway for students wishing to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) courses, and it’s no surprise that the competition gets tougher every year.

NTA conducted the NEET exam on May 5th, and students are now eagerly awaiting the announcement of the results, which is expected to happen around mid-June. So, what happens next? Let’s break it down.

What Happens After the NEET Result?

Once the results are declared, students will be able to check their All India Rank (AIR) and category rank, which will be key in securing a seat at their desired medical college. These ranks are important because they determine which colleges students are eligible for based on their marks and the category they belong to.

NEET Merit List: What You Need to Know

The merit list is essentially the list that determines which candidates are eligible for medical college seats. It's prepared based on the marks and rank of each student. There are two types of merit lists:

  • All India Merit List: This is for 15% of the medical seats available through the All India Quota (AIQ).

  • State Merit List: This is for the remaining 85% of the seats that are reserved for students from each state.

After the merit list is out, the next step is NEET counseling.

NEET Counseling: The Real Decision-Making Process

After the results, the next step is NEET counseling. Here's how it works:

  • AIQ Counseling: This is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for 15% of seats in government colleges and seats in deemed universities and private colleges all over India.

  • State Medical Counseling: The state medical counselling is managed by the individual state authority for their 85% quota seats. Like DTE Maharashtra for the state of Maharashtra. The state counsellings will begin in the month of August, once the NEET result is announced and challenging the answer key is over.

NEET qualified candidates will need to register online, fill in their preferences for medical colleges, and then wait for the seat allotment rounds. There can be multiple rounds of counseling (usually up to 4), including a mop-up round if seats are still available.

  • Stay Calm: It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but stay patient. The next few weeks are all about preparation for the counseling process.

  • Research Colleges: Don’t wait for the results to start looking into colleges. Check last year’s cutoffs, and start figuring out where your rank might land you.

  • Talk to Experts: If you’re unsure about where to apply, get advice from your mentors, teachers, or friends who have been through the process before.

  • Stay Updated: Keep an eye on official announcements regarding the counseling process. Make sure to have all your documents ready for verification.

The road to becoming a doctor is long and challenging, but with determination and the right approach, success is within reach. Once the NEET 2025 results are out, you’ll have a clearer idea of your options. Whether you’re aiming for the prestigious AIIMS Delhi or a good state medical college, the key is to stay informed and make well-thought-out decisions during the counseling process.
