I don’t think we should. By this, I do not mean at all that there should be a Mosque there. There are many arguments that I have heard, from Hindus, Muslims, and atheists. Of all the arguments, I think the atheists make the most sense because in their disbelief in god, they have come the closest to believing in humanity.
Let me put forth all the three arguments:
The Hindu Argument –“Being a religious site, and the birth place of Lord Rama, there should be a Ram Mandir there.”
The Muslim Argument –“Hindus are being authoritarian and treating Muslims as a minority and are dominating them.”
The Humanitarian Argument –“Let’s get over this fight of Hindu and Muslim and make a hospital or a school there instead.”
I think it’s clear now why I support the last argument.
BJP, undoubtedly, has been a lot authoritarian, whenever it had come to Hindu sentiments. The riots of 1992 are the visible example of that. Also, I believe those in favor of Mosque have a stronger ground to stand because it is at least historical. Hindus just have mythology, but unfortunately, that mythology is supported by the majority in India.
So to end the fight, I think we should get rid of the conceptualization of both the places of worship, because if a place of worship is encouraging us to get violent, it is not worth it.
