There are many mind-boggling facts about sports that are not much known. Let’s have a look at some of them:


1. Yubi Lakpi is a traditional game of football played in Manipur but with a twist – it uses coconut as the ball.

2. Punjab has its own tournament of sports known as Rural Olympics or Desi Olympics. It’s being hosted by Farming Fraternity of Punjab since 1933.

3. Gatka is a form of martial arts which was invented by Sikhs when Mughals invaded India. It is a series of actions performed on drums and verse recitations.

4. Thoda is another form of martial arts from the region of Himachal Pradesh. It has been inspired from Mahabharata and thus includes archery with bows and arrows.

5. Dhopkhel is a sport played in Assam which is much like Kabaddi, but is played with a ball.

6. All the NFL referees receive super bowl rings, though they are not as big as the ones given to the players.

7. An incomplete forward pass in football used to earn teams a 15-yard penalty.

8. The word "Soccer" is a 1800s slang term. It is an abbreviation for Association.

9. Two days out of 365 days of the year feature no professional sports games (MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL). The day before and the day after the MLB All-Star Break.

10. Pittsburgh is the only city where all the major sports teams (MLB,NHL,NFL) have the same colors: Black and gold.
