There can be several cause of plateau learning, psychological, mental, emotional etc. Psychologists have made efforts to know the causes of the learning plateaus in the path of learning. These have been found to vary from child to child.
1) Physiological Limit ā It is found in the experiments that when an individual has exhausted the limit of his physiological ability, then he does not make any progress in learning. It is observed that however motivated and encouraged a child yet he cannot register any improvement in learning beyond his physiological limit.
2) Limit of interest, attention and motivation ā It has also been observed that children take interest in learning subjects or an activity for some time, their attention is fixed for a limited time. They do not register any improvement beyond this limit, and hence the stage of plateau is confronted in learning.
3) Teaching method ā It has also been observed that if a teacher or guide does not make use of teaching methods according to the interests, aptitudes and capabilities of students, then they tend to loose and get bored and register themselves to plateau in learning.
There are multiple causes of plateau learning. All cannot be discussed but the conclusion is that, any small or minute happening can causes disturbances in learning. We all need to support and encourage till the end of the line.
