Blood clots in the leg can be alarming and painful, but they usually aren’t serious. If you find one in your stomach, however, the consequences could be quite severe. When these blood clots form inside of your body and travel to a major artery or vein, they greatly increase the risk of a stroke or heart attack. You should seek immediate medical attention if you notice something is happening with your thoughts or movements because it may mean there's a clot at work.

Blood clots are also very common during pregnancy because hormones stimulate blood to thin out so delivery is easier for the baby.

Blood clot. A word that can often be brought up in conversation these days due to the number of people who are now living with it following surgery or trauma. What exactly is a blood clot? It's a natural process inside of our bodies that happens when thin layers of pliable connective tissue called fibrin platelets (blood platelets) becomes stiff and sticky, trap tiny fragments of tissue, and then clots into larger clumps. This is typically followed by the formation of scar tissue. To stop blood clotting sometimes requires surgery to remove damaged tissues or interrupted vessels, but more often than not it's caused by medications which decrease the amount of fibrin platelets available for forming clots.
