Gross domestic product is a key indicator of the economic health and wealth of a country. It shows the total amount of goods and services produced in an economy during a given period, which is usually one year. The GDP gives valuable information about where countries are in their economic stability or development as well as providing insights into how much wealth certain nations have. In general, most people associate it with the United States because it is used to measure its success compared to other countries.
However, there are two problems with using GNP for this purpose: firstly, it does not take into account any value that is created outside the country's borders; secondly, it only measures production from those sectors recognized by GNP statistics.
