"The passage of molecules of water through a semi-permeable membrane from a location of rising water potential to one of lower water concentration" is how osmosis is defined. This process, also known as transpiration, is the most common way for organisms to expel surplus water from their cells. Osmosis is a process that allows plants to absorb nutrients and carbon dioxide while also releasing oxygen. Water molecules always travel from a higher-level area to a lower-level area, which can be used in chemical processes or cells. It will not only happen in one direction, but also in the other way, with water molecules migrating out of the cell and into the surrounding environment.
