What is the difference between a terrorist and a militant?

These two terms are being used interchangeably a lot, and that has given way to the thinning of the line between the meanings of "terrorist" and "militant".

Since all the terrorists are considered militants and many militants become terrorists later, the two terms are often confused with each other.

Given below are some main differences for your understanding:

> Terrorists cause harm because they are against the whole community for a particular reason, which could be racial, religious, national, or political.

On the other hand, militants are not against the whole community but with the government of a certain country or region (often their own country's).

> Terrorists have no regard for the safety of the civilians while militants seldom harm civilians. Their fight is usually only and only with the authorities.

> Militants are more organized and systematic. Some militant groups even have uniforms, color code, or dress code.

> Terrorists always use violence methods to put forth their interests and demands, like plane hijack, suicide bombings etc. Militants, on the other hand try resolving the issue by silent protests and verbal talks.

There are high chances of militants converting into terrorists if their interests go unheard for long and that's when the two terms converge.
