The biggest distinction is that the house is made of concrete. A house is a structure in which someone lives. A house, on the other hand, can refer to a structure or any site that a person considers to be her own and where she resides. A house or an apartment can be a home, but so can a tent, a boat, or a beneath the city cave.

A house can even be an abstract concept, a mental location. When you say, "Let's go home," you're probably not just referring to the geographical location where you live. You're referring to being in a special area that you own and where you feel most at ease.
