International matches have been played since the nineteenth century, with formal Test cricket matches dating back to 1877.
After association football, cricket is the world's second most popular spectator sport (soccer).
Cricket is governed internationally by the [International Cricket Council (ICC),] which has over one hundred countries and territories as members, though only twelve currently play Test cricket.
