The Kashmir Files gives light on the Kashmiri Pandit migration of the 1990s, which saw thousands of Hindus forced to flee the valley. The film was written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri.
The Kashmir Files is a 2022 Indian Hindi language film directed by Vivek Agnihotri. It depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus during the unrest in Kashmir. The film stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi.
The film was originally scheduled to open in theatres globally on January 26, 2022 to coincide with India's Republic Day, but was postponed owing to the Omicron variant spread, and will instead open on March 11, 2022.
The storey follows Krishna a young student who goes from being persuaded by Prof. Radhika Menon to learning about the genocide of his own people.

Director Vivek Agnihotri finished the script while stationed in the Himalayas at an undisclosed location. The video focused on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that occurred in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Vivek Agnihotri claimed to have interviewed over 700 people from the exodus and documented their memories over the course of two years as part of the project.
The Kashmir Files, according to Hindustan Times' Monika Rawal Kukreja, is a "gut-wrenching picture that is audacious and ruthless." and dubbed Kher the film's "soul." "The Kashmir Files is not an easy watch," she wrote. You'd scream, sob, and be terrified as you saw the horror of tens of thousands of men and women who were forced to flee their homes overnight. Thankfully, it isn't your average Bollywood masala film, which is based on true events and told in rainbow colours. Agnihotri delivers the harrowing storey the way it should have been recounted." Firstpost's Satya Dosapati hailed it a "wonderful" film and wrote,
The Kashmir Files needs to be seen more by non-Kashmiri elements of society in order for them to learn the true facts concerning Kashmir, and the English subtitles in the film will tremendously assist them in this respect. In the end, the film sends a very good message.
