Every year, thousands of people visit the Malmas temple in India to celebrate an ancient Hindu festival. The significance of this celebration is that it marks the end of a long period of abstinence for all Hindus.
During this festival, which lasts for five days, Hindus eat and drink to celebrate the coming new year. The holy scriptures is read aloud in a public place by priests and scholars and people without caste restrictions are allowed to attend Hindu temples during these five days as well.
Hindus also pray that on these days they will be released from their sins and able to join their family members with purified souls once again.
