In a tech savvy world losing our wallet is less alarming than losing our smart phone.
If you are 100% sure that your smart phone , your love of life is lost, then immediately change the passwords of vital Apps like online banking, emails, cloud account, office log in , Face book, Twitter, Instagram log in using some other device. If your phone requires any pin, passwords or bio metric methods to switch on, then you may have some breathing time to change the pass words.
Now the next step is, lodge a complaint about the theft of your smart phone in the police station nearer to the place from where your smart phone is missing. And carry your Id, address proof, receipt of your phone along with you. Ask them to file a F.I. R.( First information Report) and collect the singed copy of the same from the authorized officer.
Then you should approach your data provider in person with the copy of the FIR, to block your existing SIM and ask them to issue a new SIM.
Otherwise you can also share IMEI code of your phone with your service provider to block your number.
YOU can locate IMEI number in your iphone in phone settings.
Settings->General->about->IMEI number.
In your Android phone
Setting->About device->Status. You have to scroll down to find IMEI number.
Note down these IMEI numbers somewhere, to use it in case of loss.
If you have downloaded and enabled the 'share my location' app, you can remotely erase all the data from your phone, if it is i phone and through 'device manager' if it is Android phone.
By doing this we can have some peace, as our bank details and data are not in the hands of miscreants.
Next time when you buy a smart phone don't forget to include insurance package from the mobile manufacturer. You will get back if not full cost at least some money after the loss, depending upon the time of your buying and the theft of your smart phone.
