Trains have been for as long as vehicles have existed. While the first train tracks are supposed to have been laid down on February 21, 1804, Richard Trevithick made the worlds largest first steam-powered railway excursion. Trevithick's unidentified steam locomotive pulled a train along the Penydarren ironworks tramway near Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. In 1804, it was the first functional steam locomotive, with a top speed of less than 10 mph. Several high-speed train lines now go 30 times as quickly on a regular basis.
