Recently, Sri Lanka announced a ban on cow slaughtering, with respect to the proposal put forward by prime minister Mahindra Rajapaksa. Sri Lanka is a country where 70% of the people are Buddhists, who consider cows as sacred. Since few years, they have been asking to bring a ban on the same. The Cabinet and the government approved this decision citing that the slaughter of cows can lead to depletion of livestock resources for farming, thereby bringing down the dairy industry.
