Dean Elgar, hailing from Welkom, South Africa, was born on June 11, 1987. He is a prominent figure in South African cricket, a versatile player who has made his mark in Test and One Day International (ODI) formats. As a left-handed opening batsman with a penchant for slow-left arm bowling, his skills have left an indelible mark on the game.
Elgar's cricket journey began with his captaincy at the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. He later found his home within the Northerns and Titans cricket teams, actively participating in major South African cricket competitions. Notably, he featured in the Northerns team during the 2015 Africa T20 Cup.
One of his career-defining moments came on March 23, 2018, when he joined the elite ranks by becoming the second batsman, after Desmond Haynes, to carry his bat through an innings on three occasions in Test cricket history.
Although Elgar made his Test debut for South Africa in 2012, it was in 2016 that he solidified his position as a regular and dependable member of the team. Renowned for his gritty and resolute batting style, he consistently provides a stable foundation for the South African batting order.
In a significant turn of events, Elgar was appointed as the captain of the South African Test team in March 2021.
