The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, otherwise known as TRAI is a regulatory body which was set up by the Government of India under the section 3 of the act, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act 1997. TRAI comes under the jurisdiction of various departments like, the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications and lastly and most importantly, the Government of India. It was formed on the 20th of February, 1997. The chairperson of this organization is Dr. P.D. Vaghela. He was appointed chairman of TRAI on the 1st of October, 2020. Before being elected as the chairman of TRAI, he was the secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.
