In 1857, a group of Indian soldiers revolted against the British East India Company. The revolt was led by Mangal Pandey and it marked one of the first major events in India to be called a ‘war’. The revolt was an enormous event in Indian history, as it represented a turning point that altered both British and Indian relations. This change saw the gradual transition from military rule to democracy for India.
It all began on 10th April 1857 when Mangal Pandey shot his musket at Brigadier General Henry Havelock near Barrackpore during a parade but missed his target because he was aiming too high.
