What’s happening in Arunachal Pradesh over PRC is another fine example of how ours is a country that, although stands “united”, is a piece of land divided into many parts. It’s a fine example of the delicate social fabric that we have, spurred out of outdated cultures, political propaganda, poor literacy, and slow development.

This comes on the backdrop of Kashmiris getting attacked in different parts of the country following the Pulwama attack.
It’s fascinating how people believe this is their country. And yet they treat the other people of this country as foreign.
Coming back to your question…
PRC is Permanent Resident Certificate. It’s a legal document that Indian citizens require to show as evidence of their residence.
(Courtesy: MyNation)The BJP-led government in Arunachal Pradesh is considering to issue PRC to six non-tribal communities, which includes: Doris, Adivasis, Mishings, Morans, and Sonowal Kacharis.
These communities belong to the Scheduled Tribes class. They have been living in Namsai, and Changlang districts for decades now. This is why the government is planning to grant them PRC.
However, the community-based groups in Arunachal believe that giving these non-Arunachal Scheduled Tribes (APSTs) communities the resident certificate would compromise the rights and interests of the native people. So, they are opposing this PRC recommendation.
(Courtesy: Amar Ujala)Over this, multiple violent incidents have been reported across the state. Two people have died in protests and many are injured. Properties are torched and ransacked by the mobs.
As it stands now, with such mass protest, it’s quite unlikely that the proposal to grant PRC to the said six communities will get passed in the House.
These are more brainless violence in the country that prides itself as peaceful and secular.
