Why do elevators have mirrors?

Most of us have always used mirrors in a lift as a vanity accessory but must’ve never gone to the depth of the reason of their presence.There are some reasons why we are confronted with our own face when we enter a lift.When lifts were initially introduced there were complaints that it was too slow due to which a first hand customer research took place.The result was that the lift wasn’t too slow but the people in it felt bored as they had nothing to do except stare at walls which made them have an exaggerated sense of time.So,mirrors were installed to distract people into worrying about their looks and last minute touch ups which eventually made them complain less.Another reason mirrors were installed was for safety as one can see others' movement in it.Also,they were installed as the anxiety that comes as a reason of claustrophobia is reduced with a mirror as it gives an image that one is in a relatively bigger space.

Elevators have mirrors for both practical and psychological reasons.
