A democratically elected parliament is a democratic institution which typically consists of the King, the head of state, and two chambers: an elected lower house (the House of Commons) and an appointed upper house (usually called the House of Lords). This parliament is meant to make laws and policies on behalf of a country. Parliament is required because it is the government's legislative body. It contributes to the legislative process and, on sometimes, introduces new legislation.
