Why is Melinda and Bill Gates divorcing?

People often ask why Melinda and Bill Gates got divorced.The reason is because they had a prenuptial agreement that outlined what happens if they divorced, which included dividing most of their property evenly between themselves in 2006. In 2000, Microsoft lifted a non-compete agreement for him so he could serve as an executive officer for other software companies from 2003 to 2008 which made the prenuptial agreement null and void in 2006 when Microsoft imposed a new one which was upheld by court order in 2007.
