I think, in the years ahead when people will become passive or less-influent to the tariffs and charges, brand name would come to play a bigger role then. And this is where the likes of Airtel and Vodafone can boast their muscle power. Airtel, in particular, has been on the scene for decades. Its brand credibility is good that is shaped in years of providing quality services. On the other hand, Jio has shaped its brand as some kind of messiah for those who want cheap calls and data solution.
HOWEVER, with that being said, Jio certainly isn’t just about cheap offers. In recent times, we have seen the telecom company grow by leaps and bounds to even appeal even the high-end users. The voice clarity and data speed that it has been offering as of late is exceptional. In fact, if you look, more and more iPhone users are taking up Jio over other networks. This alone suggests how far Jio has come since its inception days.
Also, one must also note the efforts Jio telecom has been putting in shaping its brand as ‘network for all’, regardless of consumers’ age and class. On the contrary, Airtel seems to be focusing too much on the young consumers, which is quite evident with its hip ads and campaigns. Another of its drawback is its un-progressive signal strength. Talking about Airtel’s HD calling in particular, it’s outright poor and there’s nothing HD about it. Aslo note that with the pace Jio is growing and how intensively it is working on its brand image through not just cheaper offers and quality service BUT also with great customer support—it’s about time it snags the first spot from Airtel. Only recently did it overthrow Idea for the third largest Indian telecom company.
Airtel certainly can’t rely on its rich past to maintain its dominant position. In a disruptive time like today, a new and bold company like Jio that’s bringing grandeur from every angle can easily defeat the biggest and most established competitors, if those competitors lag even by tiny margin.
