The 2016 launch of Reliance Industries’ telecom arm, Jio had shaken the entire Indian mobile telephony market. With aggressive pricing and attractive offers, Jio earned a whopping 510 crore profit for the 4th quarter and pushed other telecommunications company like, Vodafone, Airtel and Idea to slash their Internet and voice calling rates. Undoubtedly, the introduction of Jio stirred up a storm in the industry and paved the way for affordable mobile Internet and calling. The trend continues with the launch of Jio Phone 2 and GigaFiber.

Jio Phone 2 launched at an economical price point of Rs. 2,999 will give serious competition to Android smartphones under Rs 5,000. RIL has fixed the main issues that customers had with Jio Phone with this launch and Jio Phone 2 is touted to be smarter with the availability of Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and other such popular apps. While low-cost Android phones have not evolved, Jio Phone 2 is offering great value for money to those people who cannot afford to splurge on mobiles. Samsung, Lenovo, Redmi and other companies producing Android phones need to come up with something fast or be left behind.
As for the launch of GigaFiber, the revolution of the Indian telecom sector is here. Based on the FTTH technology, RIL is offering initial data speed of 100 Mbps, along with dollops of free data and attractive combos. Even though BSNL already offers FTTH broadband schemes, it is only available in Chennai and Kolkata. GigaFiber is set to disrupt broadband pricing and forcing rival companies to slash their rates.
RIL’s is already an undisputed rulers of the telecom industry!
