A digital signature is a unique, encrypted, digitally signed string of characters that represents an identity. The digital signature should be unique to the subject under the theory that, if someone else tried to create a forged digital signature for you or your organization in an attempt to steal information from another party and use it as their own, then the system would be able to easily detect this and reject it. Digital certificates are issued by private or public keypairs. These are long numbers assigned by cryptographic methods which allow parties to verify identities through computer verification systems. As of November 2017 people use public keys e-mail addresses as their digital signatures because they can be revoked without leaving any traces on the internet.
