When I heard it for the first time, it did sound appealing to me. The last thing we knew was Samsung coming up with the triple rear camera, and now we have Nokia launching PureView with 5 rear cameras. It is intriguing on some levels and not so much on others.

HMD Global had confirmed it prior to the launch at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona that Nokia 9 PureView is going to be the world’s first smartphone to have Penta-camera. But Samsung, in the meantime, has come really close to the model. It has already come up with 3 rear cameras in Samsung Galaxy S10 with a promise of four on the 5G version. Not only this, Samsung’s foldable smartphone is going to have six cameras in total.
Light, the company which has partially developed the camera array of PureView had promised to launch a device with 9 cameras last year, which has not yet happened. So thinking of the number of cameras that the smartphone has, it is really not a very big deal.
We, however, cannot deny the fact that it is the best we have right now. Look at the following points about Nokia 9 PureView’s Penta-camera to know more about it:
- The phone has five Zeiss camera lenses. The model, however, looks as if the device has seven cameras.
- In these five, three are 12 MP monochrome and two 12 MP RGB cameras.
- Amongst the two extra holes, one is that of flash and the other one is the sensor for depth-mapping.
- The device takes sharp images, which can be depth-edited by tapping anywhere on them.
- “The phone takes five minimum exposures, captures around 60 to 240 megapixels of data and reduces it back to a 12-megapixel photo. Photos can also be taken in RAW DNG format, but blend a composite of the images taken with all cameras, with a varying file size around 30MB”, says the review of cnet.com.
Specifications of Nokia 9 PureView:
- It comes only in one color –Midnight blue.
- Has 20 MP front camera
- Has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage
- Wireless charging with 3320 mAH battery.
- Has under-screen fingerprint sensor.
- Doesn’t have the headphone jack.
- Runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.
The smartphone is priced at $699 and is a limited edition device.
