• It is one of the most important Shiva temple in the country, but in this temple, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi are worshipped. As the legend goes, Goddess Laxmi took the form of a berry tree to save Lord Vishnu from an avalanche during his meditation. Since then, the temple is known as Badrinath Temple. Lord Vishnu promised Goddess Laxmi and she will also be worshipped in this temple along with him.

• It is believed that Lord Vishnu killed Shankhchurna in this temple. According to the rules, one has to announce someone’s demise by blowing the conch shell. But Lord Vishnu didn’t do so as Goddess Laxmi was meditating at that time. Since then blowing conch is restricted in this temple.

• The more rational explanation of banning conch shell is the fear of avalanche.

• There is one lake here by the name of Tapkund. Taking a bath here makes one get rid of all the diseases.
