Symptoms of claustrophobia are similar to those of other anxiety disorders. The issue seems to be that claustrophobia symptoms are brought on by being in an overcrowded, enclosed, or constrained environment. People who suffer from claustrophobia are usually aware that their behaviour is unreasonable, but they are unable to control it. People may start to avoid circumstances that they think cause their claustrophobia, such as driving, flying in an airline, using a public lavatory, riding in an elevator, and a variety of other factors.
