Triambakeshwar is an antiquated Hindu sanctuary in the town of Trimbak, in the Trimbakeshwar tehsil in the Nashik District of Maharashtra, India, 28 km from the city of Nashik and 40 km from Nashik road. It is committed to the god Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, where the Hindu ancestry registers at Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra are kept. The root of the sacred Godavari river is close Trimbak.

Kusavarta, a kunda in the temple premises is the source of the Godavari River, the longest river in peninsular India. The temple has been built by Peshwa Balaji Rao.

The temple is situated between three hills, in particular, Brahmagiri, Nilagiri and Katagiri. The sanctuary has three lingams representing to Shiv, Vishnu and Brahma. The temple tank is called Amritavarshini. There are three different waterways, in particular, Bilvatheertha, Viswananthirtha and Mukundathirtha.

There are pictures of different gods, specifically, Gangadevi, Jaleswara, Rameswara, Gautameswara, Kedarnath, Rama, Krishna, Parasurama and Lakshmi Narayana. The temple has likewise a few monasteries and samadhis of saints.

According to the Shiva Purana, when Brahma and Vishnu had an argument in terms of supremacy of creation. To test them, Shiva pierced the three universes as a tremendous interminable mainstay of light, the jyotirlinga. Vishnu and Brahma split their ways to deal with downwards and upwards independently to find the completion of the light in either course.

Brahma lied that he discovered the end, while Vishnu yielded his defeat. Shiva showed up as the second mainstay of light and reviled Brahma that he would have no spot in services while Vishnu would be adored till the finish of time everlasting.
